Who’s Who – April Fay – August 18, 2010 – originally posted HERE.
Tell us about yourself.
I have been
married to Derek (who also goes to CFR) for 9 years and have a daughter
who is almost 7 years old and a son who is 4 years old. Being a mom
is an amazing experience! One thing that I have learned that it is
never wise to take a 4 year old boy shopping. This has never ended
well for me!
We also have a 1 year old chocolate lab, just to make life even more interesting!
How were you introduced to CrossFit?
A friend of
mine, Jen W, had heard about CrossFit and asked if I wanted to join
with her. I loved it right away and still do! I have been coming to
CrossFit since September 2009.
What is your favorite WOD/Lift?
Lift – Snatch, bench press, power cleans
WOD – anything with push ups – “SQT” was fun!
What is your favorite skill/movement that you have learned at CFR?
I had never
done weight lifting movements prior to coming to CFR, so everything has
been new to me. I enjoy doing snatch movements best. Maybe it has
something to do with the name, I don’t know…
One word to describe me would be…
Compassionate
I have always wanted…
To be a good
role model for my children. I feel that by showing our children how
important physical activity is for us, that it will instill the values
of taking care of one’s body for them, too.
Outside of the gym, I like to…
Spend time with family and friends. Time spent this way is never wasted.
Three things you would always find in my fridge…
Milk, eggs and various condiments.
Something nobody knows about me or would be surprised to know about me…
-I am a mother hen to those who are close to me (annoyingly so, I am told).
-I have this nasty habit of laughing when others get hurt in my presence (especially Derek). Apparently also annoying.
Favorite physical activity outside of CFR…
Jogging, swimming.
Favorite place to eat in Regina…
Earls or at home when Derek is cooking. He is a good cook, I am not(at least that is what I let him believe…
What is your day job?
I work at the
Allan Blair Cancer Clinic as a Radiation Therapist. I am often
inspired by the upbeat, positive attitudes of those who are battling
cancer.
Song that gets me pumped up for a workout…
Anything fast. 80′s music is always fun to listen to.
The last thing I ate was…
Coffee with baileys
My proudest accomplishment is…
Outside of
CrossFit, my proudest accomplishments are my children. They fill me
with such amazement and joy. (as I sit here listening to my son scream
because I wouldn’t let him have root beer…I feel the joy…)
At CrossFit, my
proudest accomplishment is getting that first pull up. Now, I just
need to string a few of them together! I also love the feeling of when
I am able to do something that I previously could not do. I had
absolutely no upper body strength at all when I joined this place, and
now, by my standards, I am a hulk!!
My six month goal is…
-To rid myself of my insane fear of box jumps!
-To string together several pull ups.
-To eat healthier.
If I could have ANYBODY (living or dead) over for dinner, it would be…
My sister. She lives too far away and we don’t get to spend as much time together as I would like.
My favorite workout attire is…
a tank top and shorts
My favorite workout partner(s)…
I enjoy all
people who I have worked out with. I also enjoy being able to workout
with Jen as this gives us a chance to visit each other!
I also like when new people come and try 6:00 am too!
Why do I love CrossFit?
I love the
atmosphere of CrossFit. I love how the people who make up crossfit are
so supportive of each other. It is very motivating to go to a gym and
have the people who are working out alongside you cheering you on.
For me, it helps push me past the point where I would have slowed down
or quit.
We just worked
out with Canmore Crossfit and the same attitude was exhibited there.
Crossfit must bring out the best in people!
I also like the feeling of finishing a workout that I didn’t think I could do in the first place!
